Bedroom Makeover

Ok everyone.. the time has come for me to officially start making over our sad, sad master bedroom.  It's only been 14 years in the making!  I'ts so easy for me to put off that room because I can just throw crap in there and close the door.  No one sees it - except for me, and I've finally had enough.  So I will be re-doing the whole thing.  And I'm going to do it super cheap. *i hope*

I will be using stuff I've already got, but will be re-purposing.  I've got alot of different knick knacky items stored in the garage.  So this will be a great project to pull out some of that stuff.  I am going to be thrifting, garage saling and flea marketing it up.  :)

I will hopefully be revealing bits and pieces as I do them, until the one final reveal!  I don't really have a deadline for getting it all finished.  It's gonna be a work on it here and there when I get time kind of project.  But if it turns out how it looks in my head, it's gonna be fantastic!  LOL

In the meantime, here are some pics from pinterest that are my inspiration...
Enjoy

In case you can't tell, the color scheme I've decided to go with will be greys, yellows, corals, and some turquoise...

Can We Really Be There Already?

So my 8 year old, Rylie says she has something to tell me yesterday when they came home from school.  She informs me that there is this little boy in another third grade class that is always staring at her and smiling at her.  Well apparently yesterday he asked her if she wanted to "go out".  Does an 8 yr old even know what that means??  So I asked her what she said to Carsyn.  Her response was, well I ran away and said no because I like Cooper and Hunter, and I want to call Hunter a cutie pie.  Really??  Are we there already with her?  I knew this would happen faster with her than with my 11 yr. old.  Rylie has always been the more outgoing one.  We've never really had a boy talk with Rylie...  I mean we've done the whole never talk to strangers talk, don't be a bully talk, behave in class talk, obey your teacher talk, but never a -when you can "go out" with boys talk.

Of course she thought the whole thing was hilarious, and at first thought you kind of go, oh that's cute.  But I don't want my kid to be the one that's kissing boys behind the gym in third grade.  So I guess it's time for a serious boy talk...

Bedroom Makeover

I've been on Pinterest a lot lately trying to get ideas for a bedroom makeover.  Our master bedroom has never been pretty.  It's always the catch all for everything I don't want anyone to see.  So I've decided that it's time to change that.  I'm going to re-do the room with things I've already got, and things that I am hopefully going to find at garage sales and thrift stores.  I already have an idea in mind for the wall behind our bed... Now to actually start implementing some of this stuff.  This will most likely take me a while to completely finish.  I have some other smaller projects around the house that I need to get to first, before my husband kills me and takes away my spray paint privileges.  And I will post all the terrible before pictures of my bedroom *shudder* so you can see just how terrible it really is.

In the meantime, here are some lovelies from my Pinterest page, and I will most likely be incorporating a few of these ideas, tweaked for me.

Happy weekend everyone!

HELP!

Ok ya'll be patient, this is kind of a long post, but I really need some help.  Some of you will remember my kitchen table makeover see table here.  I am in love with the table, but I am completely stuck on the chairs.  My original plan was to paint them red, because I really like the whole blue/red thing.  But I've tried 2 diff. reds and I am not a fan of either one.  The first one was a fire engine red.  Then the second one was more of a berry color. Which I like better, but it's still not right.  You can see the berry chair below...

So now I'm thinking maybe I don't want to go with red after all.  I just re-did a thrift store chair see thrift store chair here and I LOVE LOVE LOVE that yellow (golden maize from valspar).  AND I really love turquoise and yellow together AND I have this buffet/cabinet thingy in the same room that I want to paint that yellow.  So now I'm thinking that they maybe need to be yellow to help tie everything together.  It's a pretty small room, doubles as my dining room and my office, so I'm afraid it will look weird with too many colors floating around.  So I think I'm kind of sold on the yellow for the chairs - what do you guys think??

So another issue I'm having with the chairs is that I cannot figure out what else to do with them... I feel like they NEED something, but WHAT?  It's driving me crazy.  Maybe it's the chairs - I like the idea of having 4 mismatched chairs all the same color - I've also played around with this idea.

So you can see where I need ya'll's help.  I would love any input - ideas, pictures, suggestions, I'm open to almost anything at this point.  I've googled and blog searched and I think the problem is there are just too many options.

Help a girl out - would love to hear what you would do with the chairs.  The table is staying that color blue - that's the only thing that is not changing in this scenario.  :)

Thanks for the help everyone!

Bathtub Scrubber

I thought I would share what I use to clean the bathtubs around here.  I hate cleaning bathtubs just FYI, but these ingredients make it not quite so bad.  Cleans soap scum, kid scum, dog scum - whatever you use the tub for, it will clean it...

Just sprinkle a little borax or baking soda in the tub, then pour in some liquid ivory dish soap, scrub away.  No harsh fumes that you are breathing in the whole time and it really works, trust me!  Plus it's cheap and you most likely have the ingredients in your pantry.  Or you can put some baking soda in a jar and mix it with ivory dish soap until it forms a thick paste, stir it up before each use, keep the lid sealed tight and you have a liquid scrubber.  You can use it on much more than bathtubs - sinks, counters, stovetops.

Happy Tub Scrubbing!!

Chair Makeover

I love chairs... I can't explain it, I just really love chairs.  I picked up this chair at the Goodwill some time ago.  I left it the way it was for a very long time.  I liked the chippy white paint.  Well today I decided enough of the white, let's go yellow.  I was actually experimenting with this yellow, because it's the color I am thinking of painting a buffet/cabinet I've got in my dining room.  So I wanted to test it out and see how I liked it.

Let me just say that this is such a pretty yellow.  It is Valspar's Golden Maize, and now I know it will definitely be going on my dining room cabinet.

Anyway, below are the before and afters of my chair.  Cute isn't she?

What I Did On Sunday

So as I was blog browsing this weekend I came across this lovely blog and project: http://prissthis.blogspot.com/2011/09/diy-painted-birch-tree-wall-forest.html

I loved how this mural looked and I have been dying to do a birch tree mural.  I was going to put one in our master bedroom and use an overhead projector but decided to follow her tutorial and basically freehand it (with the help of some painters tape) on a wall in our dining room instead.

Now, my dining room doubles as the office area as well... So technically this wall is right behind my desk.  For my very first mural, and my very first basically freehand attempt I think it turned out pretty darn good.  There are a few fix up spots I need to get to, but overall I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.  Yay me!

Take a look and let me know what you think!  You can visit my link party page to see where I'll be linking this doozy up this week!

Happy Monday everyone

Coffee Filter Lampshade

Ok I know what you're thinking... she did what with coffee filters?  But you read it right folks, I coffee filtered my lampshade.  And it looks freaking awesome!   It was pretty easy actually and I've been seeing alot of coffee filtered things on the internet including lampshades.  I figured it couldn't be too hard to mess this kind of craft up, so I got out my coffee filters and my hot glue gun and went to work.  The lampshade was already red, and I was worried the red was going to peek through the coffee filters and look kinda tacky, but when the light is on it looks so pretty.  Which you will see from the pictures below.

All you have to do for this particular DIY, is scrunch up the filter, hot glue the bottom and stick it on the shade. You want to put them pretty close together so you don't have gaps.

The only bummer with this particular lamp is that the shade doesn't come off.  I was wanting to spray paint the base of the lamp too, but since the shade doesn't come off, I didn't bother with painting the base.  It still looks so cute.  I think I may incorporate coffee filtered lampshades into our bedroom remodel too.

What do you think?

If you're not following me, I'd love it if you would!

Free Stuff

Some time ago I came across Warby Parker on a friends blog.   I filed it away and decided to visit again.  Well, they have this thing where you can pick five different vintage style frames to try on for FREE for five days with NO obligation to buy anything.  After 5 days you send the frames back, tell them which ones you want (if any) give them your prescription and they send you a pair of glasses.  The glasses are not free, but they are a pretty darn good price, and they come with anti glare, scratch proof stuff on them - which I found out I need both.

They also have this thing where you buy a pair of glasses and they give one away - pretty cool.

So my 5 FREE pair of frames should be on their way soon.  I may post pictures of myself in each pair and let you guys help me pick a pair.  We'll see how I'm feeling that day.  :)

I love getting free stuff.  How cool is it that you can keep 5 pair of frames for 5 days to decide what you like??  Whenever I am picking out new frames, it takes me forever to decide and I feel like I have to rush in the eye place.  So I like that I can take some time to decide.  And if I don't like any, well, no big deal - just send them back and try again.

Check them out - they have sunglasses too!

These are the 5 styles I picked...

Changing It Up

So I am going to be changing up the look of my blog over the next few weeks... or at least trying to figure some stuff out.  So just a little heads up, if things go all wonky, that's just be trying to figure out all the techy stuff.  Please bear with me.  :)

I Am So Going To Do This...

How freaking awesome is this??!!  I have no idea what I will do with it when it's done but I am definitely doing it.  As a matter of fact, I think it just got pushed to the number 1 spot on my list of projects.  :)

I'm totally thinking of my kids by the way...

Expired

So I got alot accomplished yesterday which is exactly what I wanted to do.  I had a bunch of errands to run, and house stuff to do, and in the midst of my errand running I discovered that I had been driving around for a year with cancelled license plates on my car!  I renewed my registration online, like I always do, and when the sticker came in I realized the plate number didn't match what was actually on my license plates.  So off to the county office I went, thinking just a mix up or something silly.

When we bought the car a year ago, we moved out of the county a month later.  We never got our license plates, so we called the dealer - they said they were going to cancel the plates and send out new ones.  Well, they sent us the ones they cancelled.  It's a good thing I try to obey driving laws and I didn't get pulled over at all in the last year, because the nice lady at the tax office told me that would have been a "massive fine" and "good luck talking myself out of that one".

But all is fixed now.  I have new license plates and a new registration sticker and all is good again.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Re-doing an Ikea Cabinet

So I had two of these 3 drawer cabinet thingy's from Ikea in my office at work.  They were so bland - that blonde laminate color stuff and 3 white drawers with silver handles.  I decided they needed a makeover.  That laminate stuff is terrible to try and paint, but they  just sit in a corner in my office, so I think they will be ok.

I used Krylon's Periwinkle blue and sealed them with a gloss sealer to try and help the paint from peeling off the laminate stuff.  It seems to be working pretty good.  Then I had some pretty scrapbook paper that I mod podged to the front of each drawer face.  And I kept the same silver handles.

Overall, I really like how they turned out.  I didn't take any before pictures, sorry about that.  So I'm attaching a picture of a similar cabinet from Ikea's website.

I'm off for a busy errand day... Happy Thursday everyone!
The pictures are terrible, I know, I had to use my cell phone.  I'm trying to work on my picture taking ability, so bear with me.  But you get the general idea...
